Flood Risk Analysis

The atmosphere’s capacity to absorb moisture, and thus its absolute water vapor content, increases with increasing temperature. The saturation value of the air is enhanced by about 6% for a temperature increase of 1 degree C, creating conditions that have the potential of generating more heavy precipitation. Intensification of heavy precipitation, in form of either higher frequency events or increased intensities, can substantially enhance the likelihood of floods.

Our work on climate change and flood risk include project sites across Alberta Watersheds including the Upper Elbow River Basin and the Upper Red Deer River Basin (James River Watershed).
